The Bundesliga race promises to be a tight one all the way to the end. Bayern Munich took the lead a couple of weeks ago and they hope to remain there and lift the trophy in May. However, both Leipzig and Dortmund are making a strong title challenge and there are still a lot of rounds to be played. In the 25th matchweek, we get to watch a couple of interesting fixtures. Leipzig are playing an away match against Wolfsburg on Saturday. The last time these sides met it was in the DFB Pokal, and Leipzig scored 6 goals past Wolfsburg. However, the most exciting match will come later on Saturday. We get to watch a derby between Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund. Last but not least, table leaders Bayern Munich are hosting Augsburg on Sunday. You will find more information about all this in our weekly Bundesliga predictions.
Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig
The hosts are having very mixed performances this season. Sometimes they play excellent football while at some points in the season they look clueless. At the moment they are back in contention for the 5th spot because Schalke, who are above them, have been dropping points everywhere in the last 5 rounds. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, are undefeated in the last 5 rounds which means their form is good. Leipzig are not at their best right now so it might be the perfect moment in the season to be facing them. Additionally, Wolfsburg have the home turf advantage which will give them a slight edge over their opponents. They defeated Leipzig the last time they faced them at home in the Bundesliga so come Saturday, anything is possible.
The Red Bull side have been real opposition for the powerful Bayern in the last couple of seasons. However, not having the same squad depth always caused them to lose track in the title race as the season nears it’s end. However, this season it seems they are not going to give up that easily. Leipzig have a good result against Tottenham in the UCL as they defeated them 0-1 in London. Additionally, they are just 3 points behind Bayern in the Bundesliga and 1 defeat for the Bavarians can change all of that. Still, Leipzig need to defeat Wolfsburg away from home before they can move on to other things. They recently defeated them 1:6 in the DFB Pokal so maybe they can get a similar result in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Quality wise, Leipzig are the stronger team but performance wise we can say that both are on equal terms. On the other hand, Wolfsburg have home turf advantage which gives them a small edge. The reverse fixture that Leipzig hosted finished with a 1:1 draw so the Red Bull side will be looking for revenge on Saturday. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund
Until recently, Monchengladbach were on the top of the table and they stayed there for several weeks. However, a couple of bad results caused several teams to go above them as Monchengladbach are now 6 points behind table leaders Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of games to be played and they are going to fight for a TOP 4 finish until the last match. In the 25th matchweek Monchengladbach will be facing Dortmund, a side that’s improved drastically over the last 2 months. They are scoring more goals than any other side in the league and they will surely challenge Bayern for the title. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended with a narrow win for Dortmund so Monchengladbach will be looking to return the favor.
The visitors improved drastically in the 2nd part of the season. They are finally challenging Bayern for the title and they are performing very well in the UCL too. They were drawn against PSG and while everyone already wrote them off, Dortmund defeat them 2:1 in front of their own fans. There are still 90 minutes to be played but Dortmund are not as weak as everyone thought. Additionally, they have a fantastic record when it comes to facing Monchengladbach. It has been 10 matches in a row in all competitions that Dortmund have won against Monchengladbach. In the last couple of season, these wins have been narrow but that doesn’t matter at all. What matters is who earns the 3 points on Saturday. Dortmund can’t drop points if they hope to challenge Bayern for the title.
Dortmund are clearly the stronger side but they will have to prove it on the field. Monchengladbach are having a very good season and it won’t be a surprise if they finally stop their bad streak against Dortmund. That’s why we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome.
Bayern Munich vs Augsburg
Last but not least, we have the table leaders in action on Sunday. The Bavarians improved drastically as the season progressed. From internal struggles and an early coach change, Bayern are now top of the league and the best performing team in the Champions League. Unlike their title rivals, Bayern have a much easier fixture in this 25th round. A side like Augsburg shouldn’t create problems for them, especially since they are playing at home. However, the recent matches against them were always tight. As a matter of fact,in the reverse fixture earlier this season, Augsburg held them to a 2:2 draw. Two out of their last 3 meetings finished with a draw which is something Bayern will want to avoid. Leipzig and Dortmund will be waiting for them to slip up so Bayern have to win the match on Sunday.
The visitors are a side that’s struggling at the moment and they will most probably be fighting relegation by the end of the season. At the moment, Augsburg are 6 points above the relegation zone but that’s something that can change very quickly, especially if they lose to Bayern on Sunday. They are nursing one of the worst goals conceded records in the league this season. There are just 3 teams that are doing worse than them in that department which shows how desperate Augsburg are. In the reverse fixture, they managed to hold Bayern to a draw and their fans will be hoping for a similar outcome.
Everything in this match points towards a Bayern Munich victory. They have the home turf advantage as well as the fact that they are performing really well at the moment. Additionally, the Bavarians will want payback for the draw in the reverse fixture. For that reason, we are backing a – 2.75 Asian Handicap.
