The most exciting moment of the last Premier League round was the fact that Liverpool lost their first EPL match this season. It was Watford who clipped their wings as the hopes for an Invincible title disappeared. The Gooners are going to remain the only team who managed this feat for now. Nevertheless, the league continues as we are just 10 rounds before the end. In the 29th matchweek we get to watch a couple of entertaining matches. The Reds are hosting the Cherries on Saturday as they hope to return to winning ways. However, the real thrillers are happening on Sunday. Chelsea will host the Toffees, while in Manchester, the 2nd city derby in the EPL will be played this season. More about all of this below, in our weekly Premier League predictions for the upcoming matchweek.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth
The Reds are not performing the way everyone expects them to at the moment. First it was the loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Then they barely defeated West Ham and finally Watford crushed them during the last round. Even though they are almost 20 points above anyone else in the Premier League, the season can still go sideways for Liverpool. If they get eliminated in the Champions League in the last 16 phase, their season could still be a bust regardless of the EPL trophy. They already lost their chance at getting an “invincible” title so Liverpool need a comfortable win against Bournemouth to raise moral in the squad. They have never lost at home to the Cherries which is unlikely to change. Bournemouth are fighting relegation and Anfield is the worst place to be looking for points.
The Cherries had a good start to the season but then everything crumbled. Things got even worse in the 2nd part of the season. Series of bad results caused them to drop all the way to the relegation zone. It seems they will be fighting relegation all the way to the end even though Bournemouth have a squad that should keep them somewhere in the middle of the table. They got a positive result against Chelsea in the last round. Even though they led almost the whole 2nd half, the Cherries had to satisfy themselves with a draw. Nevertheless, that could be a very important point for them as they travel to face Liverpool on Saturday. Bournemouth will be hoping for a similar outcome against the Reds, a team that they have never beaten at home.
Liverpool need to bounce back from their loss against Watford and they are absolute favorites to win this one. The Reds have played just 1 draw against the Cherries in their whole history. All other match-ups ended with a Liverpool win and some of them were by a huge margin. However, Bournemouth are fighting relegation and they need any point they can get. While Liverpool should win the match, Bournemouth will probably be able to score at least 1 goal. For that reason, we are backing Both Teams to Score.
Chelsea vs Everton
The London side is losing a grip with their season in the last couple of weeks. With just 1 win in the last 5 rounds, Chelsea have allowed a number of teams to challenge them for the 4th position on the table. Manchester United, Tottenham, Wolverhampton, and Sheffield can all take their spot on the table by the end of the season. Lampard needs to find a solution for the way his squad is performing. Several injuries to key players have left them at the mercy of all the other teams. In the last two matches it was their defensive players who scored goals for them as their attack is in complete disarray at the moment. The Cherries held them to a draw and things will be even harder against Everton. They already defeated them 3:1 in the reverse fixture so Chelsea will be looking for revenge.
Now it’s clear that Ancelotti has completely changed the mentality of this Everton side. Just like against Arsenal, they stood strong against United and even went ahead early in the game. However, the match ended with a draw as Everton had a goal ruled out by VAR in the last seconds of the match. The coach was not happy with that decision which caused him to verbally attack the referrers and he got a red card. He will have to watch Everton’s next games from the stands. It can prove to be a very bad decision on his part because Everton can be contenders for a TOP 6 finish, if they play their cards right. Chelsea are performing poorly right now and the Toffees should take advantage of that. If, they beat them on Sunday, the EPL table can change completely before the next round.
Performance wise, Everton are the ones who are doing better right now. On top of that, they won the reverse fixture back in December. Chelsea are desperate for points but so are Everton, as they try to finish the season as high as possible. Goals are expected in this one because both sides are having trouble defensively. That’s why we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome.
Manchester United vs Manchester City
Last but not least, we have the 2nd Manchester derby of the year. Ole’s men are looking much better since new signing Bruno Fernandes joined them. With Manchester City banned from the UCL in the next 2 years, the 5th spot on the table will still offer Champions League entry. That’s why United are giving their all to reach the TOP 4 with the worst case scenario being a 5th place finish. This will mean they still get to play in the Champions League next season. However, it won’t be easy because Chelsea, Tottenham, Wolves, Sheffield, as well as Arsenal and Everton will be fighting for the 4th and 5th spot. In the reverse fixture the Red Devils managed to defeat their city rivals. Even though they are considered the weaker side at the moment, Ole was able to surprise Guardiola. However, this time it will be much harder as City have a point to prove and they will attack from the 1st second.
The Citizens played a tough match against Leicester in the last round but they managed to win it. In the UCL they struggled against a depleted Real Madrid side but they ultimately defeated them 1:2 in Spain. However, the “Cup Specialists” as they call them didn’t stop there. City defeated Aston Villa in the EFL League Cup final this weekend as they lifted their 1st piece of silverware. They are still alive in the FA Cup and the UCL as well which means City can win some kind of a triple this year. However, they will also love to get revenge on their city rivals. The pleasure will be even bigger if they manage to do it on the “Theater of Dreams”. With Rashford out of the picture City won’t have to worry about his speedy counter attacks. This can leave a lot of space for their backs to go forward and create chances. United will have to be perfect in defense if they hope for a positive result.
Quality wise, City are the better side; however, when it comes to performance both sides are on equal terms. This means United might have a small edge because they are playing at home. Still, City love winning at Old Trafford. United has already defeated them twice this season, so City will be looking for revenge and if they beat them on Sunday, they will seriously hurt their Champions League ambitions for next year. With that being said, we are backing an Away Side Victory & Over 2.5 Goals.
